I have my business name registered with the county I live in. I just set up my LLC with the State of Michigan. I need to be registered through the registrar. I know that. I need details. WTF do I need to do to get this thing legit and off the ground? How much will it cost me to be licensed, bonded and insured? Any information will be helpful.

In Michigan, you apply for your contractor license from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. There are two types of licenses - one called a "Residential Builder" license and one called a "Maintenance & Alteration Contractor" license. The M & A Contractor license is for specific trades including painting. The Department of Licensing has a website that explains the process for obtaining the license including the requirement for 60 hours of approved prelicense education.
